Installation of Windows 11 on VirtualBox

In this article, we will learn how to install windows 11 on VirtualBox? How is the new user interface different from Windows 10 OS?

Windows 11 is the major release of the Windows operating system. It was developed by Microsoft on June 24, 2021.

Currently, Windows 11 is not available for all users, the update is rolling out for specific users only that supports minimum requirements.

Windows 11 is totally upgraded with a new stunning UI, touch screen compatibility for most of the applications, and android app support as well using Windows Subsystem Linux to support Linux applications too.

How to get Windows 11?

To install Windows 11 on VirtualBox, we need to download the ISO image file from Microsoft’s official page. Please check the below instructions to download the latest version of Windows 11-

1. Go to Windows 11 download page – Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)

2. Select the download option as Windows 11 from the drop-down

3. Select product language

4. Now click on 64-bit Download option

Create Windows 11 VM on VirtualBox

To install Windows 11 on VirtualBox, we need to create a Virtual Machine and assign the required configuration. To do this, please follow the instructions mentioned below- 

1. Launch VirtualBox and click on New option

2. Add VM name, installation path, type and version as mentioned in image.

3. Assign RAM size 4GB

4. Create new virtual hard disk

5. Select Virtual Hard Disk type

6. Select storage type, you can select any one option based on your requirement

7. Select installation file location and disk size

8. Installation will be started and will take some time to complete the process

9. Now the VM is ready for the installation of Windows 11 on VirtualBox

10. To start Windows 11 installation, we need to attach downloaded iOS image file to the VM. For this, select the VM and click on Settings button.

11. Select the Storage option in VM settings and choose disk file as mentioned in below images

Installation of Windows 11

To begin the installation of Windows 11 on VirtualBox, you will need to perform the above-mentioned steps as a pre-setup of the VirtualBox. After that, you are ready to go with the installation process. Please go with the below instructions to install Windows 11 on VirtualBox- 

1. Select the created VM and click on Start button

2. Once VM will be launched you need to press any key to continue the installation process 

3. Select Language, Time and currency format and Keyboard type from Windows Setup screen

4. Please hold on Installation option and do not click on Install option. You need to perform some pre-steps to complete installation of Windows 11 on VirtualBox. To do this press Shift + F10 to launch the command prompt

5. Once command prompt will be launched, type regedit and press enter key to launch Registry Editor. We will have to bypass some conditions during Windows 11 installation

6. Once Registry Editor will be launched, go to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup” and right click on “Setup” to create new key “LabConfig”
7. Now right click on “LabConfig” and create new “DWORD (32-bit) value” called “BypassTPMCheck”, “BypassRAMCheck” and “BypassSecureBootCheck” and set data to “1” for all values. Please check below images to get details.

8. We are just going to test installation of Windows 11 on VirtualBox, here we can add a product key or bypass the key steps from here. To do this click on “I don’t have a product key”, you can attach product key after installation to activate the Windows 11 from setting option later.

9. Select the operating system type of Windows 11, check below image

10. Accept the Microsoft Software license terms and click on Next button

11. Select Custom install option

12. Select the disk and click on Next button. Now the installation process is started

13. During installation, the VM will restart. You don’t need to do anything during the restart, this will auto manage the installation process.

14. You will see the Windows 11 logo after completing the restart. Wait for the next screen of the installation process

15. Select the country or region and click on Yes button

16. Select keyboard layout or input method and click on Yes button

17. Type your device name and click on Next button or skip from this step

18. Select the set up type of this device, you can select set up for personal use and click on Next button

19. If you have a microsoft account then use microsoft account sign in option, else click on Sign in option and follow next instructions.

20. Enter name, password, recovery option (Security questions) and accept privacy options and go to next steps to finish installation of windows 11 on VirtualBox.

21. Now you are ready to use Windows 11 on VirtualBox.
